Wealthsimple does a great job marketing itself to younger investors with modest amounts of wealth. But as those clients grow their wealth, they begin to get poached by outfits who market more of a white glove experience and access to exclusive offerings like private credit. So wealthsimple, like most wealth management firms, has found they need to compete for wealthy clients in order to satisfy their shareholders. Part of that effort is making private credit accessible to their clients, but imo, no one with less than $1m in assets should touch private credit, and even then it’s very difficult to compare offerings and know what you’re investing in. Banks used to lend in these private credit markets until over regulation and government support made it unreasonable for them to do so. All you have to do is look at the history of bank failures, bank crises, and commercial loan write downs to have an idea.

ngl this was the most shady pitch i've heard in a while, "Trust me" is the last thing you wanna hear when people ask you about money/investing. I get the just of alts, but it would be nice to get more details from it. it still a pretty foggy concept and needs me to do my own research to know if I like it or not. The humor was not really my style, but that's w/e. can resonate with some people.

Wealthsimple is a scam app, nothing worth it, the customer service shit, my account was locked because fail to upload my photo, and all the current accounts have been locked suddenly. there is no other way to reach my money and need 2 business days to reopen the account. The worst service in Canada! Choose other brokers!

I always thought it would be neat to be able to set up a mortgage system for the right people 2 to 3% interest rates when I look at how much I spend on my mortgage payments in interest. I am always sick so I guess that’s called private equity Investments? Does anyone know how to set these up? If a parent set one of these up for their kids the kids would help fund their parents retirement well getting a cheaper rate than the banks… We should look into this kind of investment loan scheme.

Seems like Wealthsimple is just trying to sway people into their newly offered private equity and private credit options. I highly doubt they outperformed the S&P500 over that time.
